My Own Two Feet

Author: Beverly Cleary

A wonderful autobiography: not only because its subject is the much-beloved children’s author, but because the book takes a very sweet look at life in the 1930’s and 40’s. I read the book out loud to my 8 and 10 year old daughters and it generated wonderful discussions about “the old days.” Cleary focuses this biography on her life as an undergraduate in America during the depression, a children’s librarian, young bride and first-time published author. You can see so much of Beverly Cleary in her most famous character, Ramona.
