Friends of the Library: upcoming trip to Peabody Essex Museum (Salem, MA)
The Friends of the Library are excited to have just booked their next museum trip. They will be visiting the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, MA on January 21 to see some special exhibits.
IMPRESSIONISTS ON THE WATER
AVANT GARDE JAPANESE FASHION
AVIARY WITH 70 FINCHES
YIN YU TANG CHINESE HOUSE
Please join the Friends as they view nearly 60 oil paintings, works on paper, models and small craft that deal with the element of water with works by Monet, Renoir, Sisley, Signac and Caillebotte - key impressionists who spent many hours at sea, on river boats, leisure craft and floating studios. With Avant-Garde Japanese Fashion you will see how Japanese designers reshaped fashion in the early 1980s. The narrow silhouettes of Western couture gave way to flowing, sculpted forms. In the Gallery-turned Aviary, the artist introduces a flock of 70 brightly plumed Zebra Finches who live in a soundscape environment. The Yin Yu Tang house is a late Qing Dynasty merchant’s house from southeastern China. Cost: $38 - Bus $24, Entrance Fee $12, Driver Gratuity $2. Note: A visit to the Chinese House costs $5 which will be paid separately at the museum. Lunch will be available in the Atrium Cafe. Depart 9:00 a.m. - The Meeting Place (Rte. 101) - Return: 5:00 p.m. Please make your check out to Friends of the Amherst Library and mail to Jane Cosmo, 12 North Meadow, Amherst, NH 03031.
