Abstract Landscapes: Water, Sky, Earth
The Friends of the Library is delighted to feature Janet Hymowitz's with her art show entitled “Abstract Landacapes; Water, Sky, Earth” for the month of September on the main floor of the Amherst Town Library. Janet is an Amherst resident and also spends time painting at her residence on Cape Cod.
There will be an Artist Reception on September 8th from 2 to 4pm at the Amherst Town Library where you can meet and chat with Janet about her paintings.
Janet's paintings are an expression of her deep connection to Cape Cod, which began in her childhood. Her paintings are inspired by many aspects of the natural beauty in her surroundings on the Cape and Wellfleet in particular. Drawing primarily from memory, Janet evokes mood, feeling and beauty that our natural habitats offer. Her intention is to allow the viewer to perceive the power as well as the healing and renewal that natural landscape provides. By using an abstract representational style, the subject matter becomes universal.
"I really don't know why it is that all of us are so committed to the sea, except I think, it is because in addition to the fact that the sea changes and the light changes, and ships change, it is because we all came from the sea." —John F. Kennedy
Janet uses a variety of water media, primarily watercolor, gouache and acrylic. Some work is also augmented with textural additives including tissue paper, molding paste and gesso. She has exhibited her work at The Sharon Arts Gallery in Peterborough, N.H., as well as The Jaffrey Civic Center, Amherst Yoga Studio and The Birthing Center at Monadnock Hospital in New Hampshire. She has studied at Sharon Arts Center in Sharon, N.H., with Evelien Bachrach and Frankie Brackley-Tolman.
