MINUTES

The Amherst Town Library Board of Trustees’ Meeting

FEBRUARY 26, 2007

Prior to the beginning of the meeting a Chinese potluck dinner was held honoring Tom Head’s years of service to the Trustees, especially in arranging the Boardman Concerts.  Nancy Head also attended.

The meeting was called to order at 7:20 PM by Chairman, Don Holden.  Also attending were Kathy Brundage, David Hallenbeck, Tom Head, Robin Julian, Dick Martini, Helen Rowe and Library Director, Amy Lapointe.

The minutes of the meeting were approved as read.

LIBRARY DIRECTOR’S REPORT:

·        Monthly statistics were presented.  (See attached)  Questions were raised concerning the ATL Common Borrower numbers.  Amy will check on these.

·        Collection news:  The large print books seem to be receiving more requests.  The purchasing process is being changed and a small collection continues to go to Parkhurst Place.  The downloadable videos will be available soon.  Amy passed out a printout that will inform patrons of the new service and how to access it.  The videos will only be available to be watched on computers.  Information is being gathered on additional museum passes patrons might like to have available.

·        GMILCS:  A retreat is being planned which will be a full day retreat.  This occurs every 2-3 years.  The horizon automation system will need updating in the next 1-2 years.

·        Buildings and Grounds:  A heat loss occurred due to a blown part in the air handler.  DPW has repainted the Johnson Meeting Room.  Roof leaks occurred and the DPW shoveled the roof finding several small holes which will be fixed.  The Library closed early on Feb. 14 due to the snowstorm.

·        Programs:  There will be a variety of activities for children over the February vacation.  Upcoming adult programs include a wedding planner primer, The Last of the Donkey Pilgrims and Irish & American Music and Dance.

·        Friends of the Library:  Tote bags are now available for $12.00.  Gifts of beanbag chairs and an area rug to be used for storytimes were made.  Additional wooden bins for picture books have been ordered.  Plans are moving ahead for the Big Read Program in the fall.

·        Budget/Trustee elections:  Amy reminded us all to be advocates of the Town Budget since our budget is included in it.  The voters guide and Amherst General Quarterly will be out in time for the election.

·        2010 Celebration:  There is a meeting on March 8.  The Library will be involved in the celebration.

·        New Library Cards:  Since the supply of existing cards is nearly gone Amy is looking into new cards which will feature Dick Fischer’s 4th of July painting.  The new cards will also have a key attachment card.

TREASURER’S REPORT.

  • Dick reported that on the income side revenues are down mainly due to less having come in as gifts.  Otherwise spending and income are on schedule.
  • Gifts:    Gifts amounting to $608.87 were unanimously accepted by the Board. (see attached)

There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 8:30 PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Helen D. Rowe, Secretary
