Minutes of the Amherst Library Trustee Meeting

October 24, 2005

 

The meeting was called to order at 7:35 PM by Chairman, Don Holden.  Also attending were David Hallenbeck, Tom Head, Robin Julian, Bob Lown, Richard Martini, Helen Rowe and Library Director, Amy Lapointe.  The minutes of the September meeting were corrected to read that the November meeting is the 21st.  The minutes were approved as amended.

 

Library Director’s Report:  Amy presented the monthly statistics. (see attached)  The data base usage was the highest for the first quarter.  The Reference Department is asking everyone who uses the library to complete an electronic services survey.  GMILCS now makes it possible to download audible books.  There has been mixed reaction to the new website.  Sarah is moving items around in the website.  The reference department is training the staff so that they can respond to requests from patrons.

 

There has been positive feedback and good attendance at the YA programs.  The adult programs are off to a good start.

 

The Library has two new –used computers from the Town Hall.

 

Sara Leonardi has been elected president of READS. (reference and adult services)  Carolyn Hottle was nominated for the READS award of excellence for her outstanding service to readers. A grant from GATES will be used for the Lifelong Access @ the library.

 

Refreshments for the Boardman Concert will be provided by the Friends of the Library with some help from the Trustees.

 

The budget process is underway with our first draft due on 10/31.  During the early part of November there will be subcommittee meetings with the representatives.  The Department presentations to BOS and Ways and Means will be in late November and December. 

 

Treasurer’s Report:  Bob reported that the rate on several cd’s has increased because of bulk funds.  He will work with Amy on the budget presentation.

The following gifts were unanimously accepted by the Board;

            $242.90           NH Humanities Council

            $666.67           Walmart Literacy

            $315.00           In memory of Tenney Clough

            $100.00           Rives Boardman

 

Buildings and Grounds:  The DPW has completed several tasks inside the building.  They hope to install the exterior outlet before winter.

 

Programs:  The Boardman Concert will feature the David Tonkin Quintet.  Arrangements have been made to tune the piano.  The Trustees will gather at noon on the 13th to set up the tables and chairs.  Trustees will bring crackers, cheese, nuts, fruit, a cake and cider.

 

Technology:    A technology plan is evolving.  Dave and Amy will continue to work on it for presentation at a future date.

 

New Business: Bob presented a preliminary sketch for a new graphic design which shows the old door, marquee, lamp and sign post.  Everyone was pleased with the preliminary sketch.

 

There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 8:50 PM

 

The next meeting is Monday, November 21, 2005.
