Downloadable Audiobooks & eBooks
   


The Amherst Town Library is pleased to offer free access to downloadable audiobooks and eBooks for our cardholders. As a member of the New Hampshire Downloadable Books Consortium, we offer a wide variety of popular materials available 24/7 from the convenience of your home or office.

The New Hampshire Downloadable Books (NHDB) collection includes fiction, nonfiction, children's and teen titles, as well as language instruction materials. Titles are available in muliple formats and are compatible with many different computers, eBook readers, audio players, and mobile devices.

What are Downloadable Audiobooks?
Digital downloadable audiobooks are another format of spoken word audio, like cassettes or CDs. The “books” can be accessed anytime from anywhere with Internet access. They do not need to be “returned” because they will automatically expire in 1 week.

What are eBooks?
An eBook is an electronic verision of a traditional book that can be read by using personal computer or by using an eBook reader. (An eBook reader can be a software application for use on a computer, such as Adode Digital Editions, or a portable device, such as a Kindle.)

Borrow a Player or eReader
For cardholders who do not currently own an MP3 or eReader but are interested in digital media, the library has several portable devices that are available to borrow. Users are responsible for returning the players and accessories in working order.

MP3 Players
Our MP3 players circulate for 2 weeks.

SanDisk Sansa M230
The Sansa M230 will hold approximately eight hours of CD-quality MP3 tracks (encoded at 128kps) or 16 hours of WMA tracks (at 64kbps).


Creative Zen Nano

The Creative Zen Nano offers you up to 18 hours of continous playback on a single AAA battery.

 


 

eReaders
Our eReaders circulate for 7 days.

Sony eReader Pocket Edition
Our Sony eReader is loaded with 13 fiction, nonfiction, youth and teen titles including bestsellers such as Steirg Larsson's Millennium trilogy, Phillip Pullman's "The Golden Compass," and "Empire of the Summer Moon."

Amazon Kindle 2
Our Kindle is loaded with 14 fiction, nonfiction, youth and teen titles including Jodi Picoult's "Handle with Care", "American Lion: Andrew Jackson in the White House" by Jon Meacham, and "Twilight" by Stephanie Meyer.

Barnes & Noble Nook
Our Nook is loaded with 13 titles including Courtney Sullivan’s “Maine,” Erik Larson’s “In the Garden of Beasts,” Tom Clancy’s ”A game of thrones,” and Rick Riordan’s “The Red Pyramid.”

 
Apple iPad
Our iPad is available for demonstration in the library. Cardholders may borrow the device for two hours at time. The iPad will be circulated on a first come, first served basis. No reservations will be accepted. Please ask at the main circulation desk regarding availability.
